After many hours of research and in-depth review of fifteen models, we have selected the top 5 best gaming laptop 2019, among which our preference is always the MSI GS65 8RF Stealth Thin (048FR) .
Without integrating the latest generation of graphics card, this PC is no less than a configuration sufficient to run all the games on the market in comfort, in a worked design, with reduced weight and a good autonomy.
Best gaming laptop 2019
A laptop PC gamer is a sacred investment. This section devoted to cheap models also begins in a price range already around $1100.
And in this range, it is impossible to find balanced models with a GPU 1070 GPU or higher. The two PCs that we have selected are very good at play, but they will already ask you for some graphic concessions regarding the latest gourmet games on the market.
Lenovo Legion Y530 : the best cheap
The first computer in our selection is the 2018 version of the famous Y520.
Of course, it is not, at this price, the most powerful notebook for gamers. Nevertheless, it is in this area, the excellence of entry-level, in that it avoids the many pitfalls that often found: moderate temperature, beautiful finishes and consistency in the choice of components.
Level design first, it should be noted that the plastic bonnet is better bill than the Y520 and it gives an impression of strength. Connectivity, it was brought back to better cooling of the machine.
The 15.6-inch Full HD screen this time adopts a welcome anti-glare. The edge / screen ratio has been optimized to increase visual comfort.
On the other hand, know if you are follower of skype or streaming, that the Webcam has been relegated to the bottom of screen to optimize this ratio. This is not a very flattering angle of view.
The keyboard offers a lot of flexibility and is pleasant for extended gaming sessions. It also has backlight, very convenient for your night game sessions.
The version we are interested in is composed of an Intel core i5-8300U processor combined with a GTX 1060 graphics card with a dedicated RAM of 6 GB, perfectly balanced thanks to a RAM of 8 GB, and offering a 1 TB hard disk and a 256 GB SSD.
Connectivity level, this variant includes 1 HDMI port, 4 USB 3.0 ports, and 1 headphone input. These different ports are distributed at the back, except 2 USB ports and the headphone jack, located on the sides for easy access.
Finally, mobility level, it is pretty good: with only 2.2 kg and 9.5 hours of autonomy (if you perform intensive gaming, you can reduce this autonomy by two), it is rather easy to carry.
In short, the Lenovo Legion Y530 offers very likely one of the best quality / price ratio of the moment among inexpensive gamer laptops. And if you have a tighter budget and you do not play games too greedy or too recent, the version on Core i5 with a GTX 1050 , cheaper, could still be an interesting alternative.
Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming (PH315-51-78NP) : the cheap alternative
Among the Predator range from Acer, the Helios 300 series is one of the cheapest. It thus accentuates the brand’s desire to orient itself also towards gamers with a more limited budget, while sacrificing the least possible performance.
Level design, the Predator regulars will find it, although the brushed metal effect printed plastic shell gives it this time a look a little more noble.
The 15.6-inch Full HD screen is a nice surprise, with a fidelity in the colorimetry superior to that of the Legion Y530. On the other hand, it lacks perhaps a little brightness.
The keyboard is rather comfortable, offering the ideal resistance to avoid errors while not being tiring to use. By cons, better to report it directly, it is proposed in Qwerty. You could be destabilized by the positioning of the keys!
On the component side, it includes an Intel Core i7-8750H (8th generation), combined with a GTX 1060 graphics card with a dedicated RAM of 6 GB, 32 GB of RAM, and a hybrid hard drive of 2TB and 512 GB SSD.
The dedicated RAM of the graphics card means that it does not share its RAM with the rest of the components. It’s great for running the hottest 3D games and programs. On the other hand, it is felt on the ventilation: and this PC tends to heat more than average.
Note however that if, after a while, the performance is not up to your expectations, you can easily change the RAM and hard drive, thanks to the two hatches under the computer that can be removed without difficulty.
Connectivity level we have: 1 HDMI port, 1 Ethernet port, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB-C port, 1 SD port and 1 audio / microphone output.
Finally, it still remains mobile despite everything it embarks: it weighs only 2.5 kg and can hold, in normal use, up to 7 hours.
In the end, this PC could have obtained the first place of this section if it did not present this problem of heating. However, if we are warned and that we equip properly (with a good cooler, for example), it is an excellent PC gamer for a price that is still reasonable.
The best mid range gaming laptop
In this category are in our opinion the most interesting models, because they offer the right combination of power to run all current games (even the most greedy) without any risk of becoming obsolete in the coming months.
We also make a leap in the material quality offered, with aluminum frames, a guarantee of strength and durability.
Razer Blade (2019) : the mid-range alternative
In the field of portable PC gamers, we are giving review about another best budget gaming laptop 2019, For a PC gamer, it denotes, once closed, a look very simple and elegant. It has a Full HD matte display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, with a very good brightness, which allows an excellent gaming experience in various conditions, even in complete darkness.this constantly renewed model has established itself as a flagship model. And if the 2019 versionincorporating a RTX 2060 card is also released recently, we focus here on one of the 2018 declensions still very current and offered a value for money more interesting.
In addition, its keyboard is equipped with Razer Chroma technology, which gives an individual backlight to each key, this allows unlimited customization options.
In this version, it includes a Core i7-8750H processor (8th generation), a GTX 1070 Max-Q with 6 GB of dedicated memory, 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD (the 512 GB version is unfortunately currently available) at a much higher price).
Its thickness of 1.78 cm and its weight of about 2kg make it an ultra-portable model. And autonomy? We can count up to 6 hours of gaming (it’s very correct). Attention though: although the PC itself is very light, its power supply, rather massive, is 800 gr! We must therefore count this additional weight for transport.
On the other hand, if it is one of the most powerful and most transportable models that we have seen so far, it presents two quite unfortunate defects: it is quite noisy (not surprising considering all that it embarks) and, above all, it tends to heat (more than the MSI). We recommend investing in a cooling system worthy of the name if you opt for this PC and you play intensively.
In the end here is an excellent laptop gamer about its performance and its transportability, but its uncontrolled heating does not allow it to reach the first place in this section. It is this problem, impacting the 2019 version , which prevented it from imposing itself against other models integrating a RTX, and which we are talking to you about afterwards).
Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX735 : the high-end alternative
We now come to a 17 inch model. And if he also falls into this trend towards more sobriety and transport ability for PC gamers, he does it with a lot of originality.
Once the laptop is open, you will find that the keyboard and pad occupy only the first half of the space. All the top is invested by the cooling system. In addition, an opening is made at the rear (this is the famous new cooling system by Asus elevation), which further improves the ventilation. Despite this, it measures less than 2 cm thick for only 2.7 kg.
By cons, suddenly, our habits are completely turned upside down, with a touch pad (editable in numeric keypad at the touch of a button) relegated to the right and a wrist rest absent. We can not really say that this system lacks ergonomics (some aspects like the volume control wheel are very practical), but the grip is really not facilitated.
Its full HD 144 Hz screen occupies the vast majority of space (this model is also deadlock on the webcam). It is a Pantone slab, which incorporates G-Sync and Optimus technologies. So, it is optimized to perform well in gaming, but to switch to a configuration in which your battery saves a bit for notebook use … At least in theory because, in fact, the autonomy is very comparable to that of the Acer Predator Triton 500.
Nevertheless, colorimetry and brightness are mastered, for a display of beauty, and this is the main thing for a gamer.
At the component level, this version includes a Core i7-9750H (9th generation), a graphics card RTX 1070 with 8 GB of dedicated memory, 16 GB of RAM and a SSD of 1 TB. Again, this is a model able to make everything spin smoothly, this time with the advantage of a more controlled heating.
Note that this model is also available with a RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics card, for an even more optimal result. The difference in cost that currently exists between the two versions nevertheless pushes us to find its value for money less interesting.
In the end, if you are looking for a laptop 17-inch gamer, this is one of the best options of the moment … As long as you are not put off by its confusing grip.
Best affordable gaming laptop
In this last section, we wanted to select laptops gamer at the forefront of modern technologies, but without, however, indulge in all the craziness financial point of view (some models do not hesitate to climb to more than $5000!).
As it is possible to find excellent models at less than $2500, we have set our maximum threshold at this level.
The two PCs thus selected are distinguished from the rest of our selection by their latest components.
MSI GS65 8RF Stealth Thin (048FR) : The best affordabel
The MSI GS65 8RF is the first computer of our selection to offer an aluminum chassis, a guarantee of its increased strength and a best gaming laptop under $2500.
Its successful design combines a sober side and a side “did you see”, with the golden edges on the hood. Sufficiently discreet as to take it to the library, but original enough that to stand out from your neighbors’ PCs.
Its 15.6-inch Full HD screen is well balanced in colorimetry and has an excellent ratio compared to very thin edges. With a refresh rate of 144 Hz, visibility in play resists any test (the remanence is almost zero).
On the other hand, its backlit keyboard is not the most comfortable in that it offers an extremely short response time and therefore an increased tendency to typing errors. Nevertheless, some prefer this type of configuration.
On the performance side, it includes a 6-core Intel Core i7-8750H (8th generation) processor, a GTX 1070 Max-Q with 8GB of dedicated RAM, 16GB of RAM, and an internal memory of 1TB with 256GB SSD. In short, the MSI has no trouble turning all the big games of the moment.
Connectivity side, there is nothing wrong with him: 1 HDMI port, 1 USB-C port, 3 USB 3.1 ports, 1 Ethernet port, 1 DisplayPort port, 1 audio jack and 1 microphone jack.
Finally, with its small weight of 1.9 kg and 1.7 cm thick, it is easy to carry, especially since its power supply is quite thin and light, if you want to take it to compensate for it. autonomy of about 7 hours.
On the other hand, it is true that it tends to heat. We can only recommend that you invest in a cooling system adapted to house. It is nevertheless very quiet, making its use pleasant.
In the end, it is an excellent laptop for gamer, who will withstand all the games you submit, and which is very mobile despite its performance. Without doing too much, it does well enough that not to risk becoming obsolete in the coming months, and thus has an excellent price / quality ratio.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX502GV : with its Core i7-8750H processor (8th generation), GTX 1070 8GB, 16GB RAM, 1TB hard drive and 256GB SSD, this Asus model is still very current. It is also distinguished by its excellent management of ventilation. On the other hand, we penalized him because, compared to the last generations of PC, it is relatively heavy (2.6 kg for a 15 inches) and because its autonomy is frankly ridiculous (2 hours).
Lenovo Legion Y740 : With its Core i7-8750, its GPU RTX 2060, its 16 GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive + 256 GB SSD, this model of Lenovo displays beautiful features at a very affordable price. Nevertheless, its more plastic design, as well as the light leaks that could be observed on some models led us not to integrate it into our main selection.
MSI GS65 Stealth-483 : The Titan MSI remains a reference in the field of 17-inch gamer laptops, with its Core i9, GTX1070 8 GB, 2 GB of RAM and SSD 512 GB that allow it to run all games of the moment in 4K. Nevertheless, its price remains high despite the emergence of RTU GPU competition, and its 32 GB of RAM will be unexploited by the vast majority of users.
In conclusion, which notebook PC gamer to choose?
Our preference continues to move towards the MSI GS65 8RF , which, if it does not have the latest generation of GPU, nonetheless offers a configuration still able to run all games of the moment without flinching, all with a neat design and a correct autonomy.
The economical choice, it is always on the side of the Lenovo Legion Y530 . With its GPU GTX 1060, it starts to trouble a little on some recent games very greedy, but it is quite fit to run, if you agree to make some graphic concessions.
Finally the Acer Predator Helios 300 Acer Predator Helios 300 , despite a slight problem of heating and poorly managed autonomy, seems to us to be one of the best options to enjoy the RTX 2080 Max-Q. It is a PC of formidable power, allowing you to tackle any game in a fluid way, thanks to a good balance of components for a price that is not yet crippling.
